The Murder of Innocence?

“Science cannot tell you whether abortion is wrong, but it can point out that the (embryological) continuum that seamlessly joins a non-sentient fetus to a sentient adult is analogous to the (evolutionary) continuum that joins humans to other species. If the embryological continuum appears to be more seamless, this is only because the evolutionary continuum is divided by the accident of extinction. Fundamental principles of ethics should not depend on the accidental contingencies of extinction. To repeat, science cannot tell you whether abortion is murder, but it can warn you that you may be being inconsistent if you think abortion is murder but killing chimpanzees is not. You cannot have it both ways.”
-- Richard Dawkins

The debate is burry.  Let's get the preliminaries out of the way, shall we?

First, I am "pro-life" in my philosophies.

Second, I think abortion is murder, and if you can murder an unborn child, killing an adult should be no problem for you.  A fetus or an adult is simply splitting hairs. If you can conquer the cowardice it takes to murder a helpless fetus, adults should be no problem.  Just saying.

Third, if the unborn child is killing its mother, a decision has to be made by the mother to save herself, and an abortion may be necessary.

Fourth, there are pills you can take before life begins to mitigate this entire discussion.

And last but not least, if you spread your legs for some cheap entertainment, you should be willing to accept responsibility for the outcomes.

I think killing chimpanzees is tantamount to murdering our distant cousins, to Richard Dawkins' point.  Just saying.

But, to back up a bit, people are cowards, and "responsibility" is the entire debate, in my view.  What about the rape of a child? Incest?  The court should prosecute the offender and order an immediate abortion for the child's well-being, such as it may be.

I think the "morning after" pill should be available free of charge in clinics, hospitals, and doctor's offices.  Again, this would mitigate the entire issue, except for the mindless women who think they are above good sense and children raped by monsters.

For adult men and women?  It is much easier to fight for "pro-choice" than to deign acceptance of responsibility for your actions.

So, why am I such an asshole about this?  Well, I'm a person of pretty good moral ethics, a spiritual being, a Christain, a pastor, a father, and a grandfather, and I don't believe in killing if it isn't part of warfare.  As such, I value all life, born or not.  What is the legal definition of life?  Does legality really enter into it?  Life is what it is for each of us.  For me? Heartbeat and brain function.  Kind of supports my belief in the "morning after" pill.

When I got my divorce, 25 years after my marriage, I also signed up for a vasectomy.  I planned on screwing my lights out for the life I had left.  I also didn't want the responsibility for any more children.  So, when the doctor started talking about reversal, I told him to cut the vas so short so there would be no way.   It would figure that every woman I met, from that point on, and there were many, already had a tubal ligation procedure.  This was the way my life was going.  Lesson compounded by lesson.  Well, better safe than sorry.

So, here we are.  Hypocrites, sinners, the spiritual, and the righteous.  Put us in an Oster Duralast Classic blender, push the  "extract" button, and you can pour out a society.  What do we do?   I will continue to try and protect those who cannot protect themselves.  It was what I swore to do when I rebelled against bullies in school.  It was what I did as part of the United States Air Force, for 23 years.  It is what I did as part of an Institutional Review Board, for 17 years.  It is why I "conceal carry" a pistol.  And, it seems, I will be privileged to continue protecting the vulnerable until my death.

Watch the news tonight. Not the liberal news channels that paint everything with a rose-colored brush, but real news stations that attempt to tell a modicum of truth.  It is difficult not to admit we live in a society where a lack of personal morals and responsibility is excusable.  We live in a society where criminals can do as they wish, and the innocent are guilty if they don't let them act out.  Criminals are murdering the innocent daily, and the courts turn a blind eye to it.  People will say this has nothing to do with abortion, it's just the daily news.  Really?

“I've noticed that everyone who is for abortion has already been born.”
-- Ronald Reagan

(Re: disclaimer cum "get out of jail free" card)

Before you go getting your panties in a bunch - it is essential to understand that this is just an opinion site and, as such, can be subjected to scrutiny by anyone with a differing opinion. It doesn't make either view any more right or wrong than the other. Opinion, presented in this context, is a way of inciting others to think and, hopefully, to form their own opinions if they haven't already done so. This is also why, occasionally, I will present an "opinion" just to stir an emotional pot. Where it may sound like I agree with the statements made, I'm more interested in getting others to consider an alternate viewpoint.

I fervently hope that we keep open and active minds when reading opinions and while engaging in peaceful and constructive discussion, in an arena of mutual respect, concerning those opinions offered. After over twenty years of military intelligence, I believe that engaging each other in this manner, and in this arena, is the way we will learn tolerance and respect for differing beliefs, cultures, and viewpoints.

We all fall from grace, some more often than others; it is part of being human. God's test for us is what we learn from the experience... and what we do afterward.
