Questioning Age, Choices, Tone, Honesty, Denial, and Jealousy

“Sex at age 90 is like trying to shoot pool with a rope.”
-- George Burns

How old are you? How are you
I am 70. People don’t see the age. I don’t feel the age, either. I tribute this “youth” to 23 years in Air Force Intelligence.
Is there a way to wish her something to come true if you think about it hard enough?
Wish in one hand and crap in the other, and see which one fills up first. You can wish till you’re blue in the face, or you can do something to bring it to fruition. It is a choice between doing nothing but wishing, and doing something to bring what you wish into fruition. Not a difficult choice for the doers.
Why do most psychopaths avoid playing? Due to boredom, shouldn't they seek to be a toy, to have a purpose?
Who says psychopaths avoid playing? Maybe because the games they play are psychopathic?
Why can you not be yourself?
Why can’t I be somebody else? The only person I can be is me. Everyone else has already been spoken for. I can try to be someone else, but it is a mask the true me would be hiding behind. Better to just accept reality and make the most of who we are.
What reasons are there to be optimistic about the future of humanity from 2024 forward?
One can think about suicide, wallow in a pit of despair, become a whimpering baby, or you can be optimistic about the future. I’m optimistic because the alternatives simply suck.
Is it truly a game if it plays itself?
It would depend on if you are learning something from the “game” playing itself. If you aren’t, then the “game” would be moves where the outcome is, probably, “predetermined” by the computer. The 1983 movie "WarGames" presents a perfect example of this.
  • Stephen Falken: Did you ever play tic-tac-toe?
  • Jennifer: Yeah, of course.
  • Stephen Falken: But you don't anymore.
  • Jennifer: No.
  • Stephen Falken: Why?
  • Jennifer: Because it's a boring game. It's always a tie.
  • -- "WarGames" (1983)
  • Are you sure you made the right choice?
If I didn’t, my penis will fall off tomorrow. But, that depends on what choice you’re discussing.
    Is greed the seed?
If you’re planting “evil” it can be a bad seed, indeed. Controlled greed can be a good thing. We move forward in our history by controlling our greed, steering it in the right direction to our benefit. On the other hand, uncontrolled greed is a step closer to evil, which is, obviously, not good.
Can it be true that your strength is revealed in challenging times, embrace difficulties as opportunities for growth and resilience?
The strength is in perseverance. A person’s ability to persevere in the face of failure defines their “can do” character to people around them.
Author's comment: Well written, thank you.
How are we able to feel the knowledge and thoughts of our brains in our subjectifs experience is this fact is innate?
    Uh... What?
I love my brother's friend, but I can't tell him. What should I do?
You have two obvious choices. Don’t tell him. Or, grow a set of broad shoulders and tell him. I find honesty to always be the best policy. But, then, I have no filter.
Which year, in your opinion, was the last year that most things in life were run "old school", that is, internet-free?
    1988.
“I want to remind the new generation about the power of old-school romance.”
    -- Jubin Nautiyal
Is it possible to say 'you're very smart' without being sarcastic or condescending?
It has to do with the honest way you say it. If it's about yourself, it will seem egotistical.
A quote by Frederick Akuamoah says; “the only way to start is to quit”. Do you agree or not? What is your reason?
Freddy has no clue. The only way to start is to take the first step. Perseverance will take you the rest of the way. You can’t start by sitting down. You have to move forward.
Judging on the number of published volumes, the Bible is by far the most believed, than anything else. Why are a bunch of less-believed books used in schools to cheat our children? Why isn't the Bible the sole ruling book in our schools?
The published numbers have little to do with believability. I have four volumes on my reference shelf and I have issues with what I can believe in them. However, this does not mean I don’t think it is a “good” book. The philosophy is sound, but what man has done with it garners no merit. The fact that so many cultures attend schools, nowadays, it would be hard to pick a religious tome to guide students. If I had to choose, I would pick Taoist philosophy. It is less “religion” and more a philosophy for living life. Forcing "God" on children is tantamount to brainwashing. I'd like to think God wants us to make our own decisions, and we can be judged by them, in the end.
Can standing out in plain sight be an effective way to hide from an enemy? Are there any examples of this in nature?

It can be effective with the right camouflage. If you sand out in plain sight, you risk being shot… and being called a dumbass.
Why is it so hard to get a woman who is attracted to you to go on a date with you? Shouldn't it be the easiest thing in the world?
    Is she married?
What would you want to know, and why, if you could only learn one unchanging truth about the nature of reality?

“Why?” It is a question that no one can answer, except by saying, “Because.” The problem is, “because” just doesn’t answer it.
“There is much asked and only so much I think I can or should answer, and so, in this post I would like to give a few thoughts on what seemed to be the overwhelming question: “WHY?”
And here is the best answer I can give: Because.
Why, you ask? Because, I answer.
    Inadequate yet true.”
    -- Libba Bray
I like this girl and I’m pretty sure she likes me back, but I don't know how to ask her out. Should I do it over text or something else?
Honesty! Go right up to her and ask, “Would you like to go out with me? Maybe, to a movie, or dinner?” I hate to say it, but, this isn’t rocket science.
If you bought the house before you got married, why would you put it under your wife’s name after marriage?
In the divorce, she gets it anyway.
How can someone build gratitude in difficult circumstances?

Don’t try, and the “circumstances” have no bearing. In everything you do, be selfless. In selflessness, gratitude plays no role. You do what is right because it is right, not because of any reward, like gratitude.
Does realizing someone cares for them make some less afraid of commitment/ fear of rejection?
For that particular person that cares, probably. They may still be afraid, for others, however.
What is the difference between a good deed and a bad deed, and time?
Time has no bearing on good and bad deeds. Just because time isn’t what you expect, you don’t choose to do a bad deed. Doing “good” is always the fallback stance in any situation. I will lie to you to save people, but karma will peel your face off, sooner or later, for making me lie. Good will always win out over evil.
What happens when a writer spends too much time on the internet?
For me, I need variety. I can spend the day answering questions. This is not conducive to a healthy mind and body. I spend a couple of hours each day here, then I go out and about.
“The real enemy of genius is the router in the hallway.”
    -- A.O. Monk
Let's talk about insecurities and self-denial. Are you still willing to go back on the road after that accident?
You can’t stop doing what you do, just because a choice you made caused an accident.
Why do I live if I am just going to be unhappy and a failure?
You were probably a wealthy asshole in a previous life. This time around, you get to experience the other side. The universe is all about balance. By the way, killing yourself will put you in a world of hurt. So, don’t even think of it. Better you learn how to be truly happy always and in all things, regardless of your circumstances. It is a better choice.

How do I know if I am actually a worthy person?
    Worthy of what?
What are some book recommendations for dark psychology and manipulation stuff?

Anything addressing the psychology of deviant behavior. Donatien Alphonse François was a bit deviant. I think that reading any of his works might get you into the mood for the rest of it.

When you talk much, the probability of you telling lies will be high or low?
I rarely lie, so it will be low.
How can researchers navigate the barriers presented by individuals who purposely portray ignorance within cancel culture?
If you can “navigate” barriers, they aren’t good barriers. They are more like traffic calming devices. If you’re a researcher, you’re a smart person. You are up against ignorance, a dumb person. How hard is it to tell who thinks they are presenting ignorant “barriers” you need to navigate? “Cancel culture” defines their ignorance, so try looking for that.
“The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough. They’re there to stop the other people.”
    -- Randy Pausch
How can the God of all things, of whom nothing can be separately distinguished, be jealous of anything?
    One would think not.
What do you think is more important, material wealth or knowledge, wisdom, and decision?

Since you can’t, generally, accumulate “material wealth” without knowledge, wisdom, and decisions, wealth is at the lowest rung. You can’t get wisdom without knowledge, and you have to decide if you want to accumulate knowledge. I think the ability to “decide” is most important to anything.

Why are African Americans judged by their lowest class?
Because the judge is a racist.
Why is it important to understand history to shape identity and comprehend the current context?

Those who don’t understand history are doomed to repeat it. Since many of us don’t want to repeat much of our history, I vote we learn and understand the intricacies history lays before us.
    What is question 11+88=?
The question is mathematical. The answer is 99.
Why does it seem like you're lying when you're trying to defend something you anticipate being accused of even though you're telling the truth, or defending something you know you will be accused of?

One, I don’t lie that much. Two, I don’t defend myself until I’m accused. Three, I only explain myself once. If they’re too stupid to believe me, there’s nothing that repeating myself will make them believe. It is hard to make the stupid smart.
“I have weapons of self-defense. They’re called jokes.”

Before you go getting your panties in a bunch - it is essential to understand that this is just an opinion site and, as such, can be subjected to scrutiny by anyone with a differing opinion. It doesn't make either view any more right or wrong than the other. Opinion, presented in this context, is a way of inciting others to think and, hopefully, to form their own opinions, if they haven't already done so. This is also why, occasionally, I will present an "opinion" just to stir an emotional pot. Where it may sound like I agree with the statements made, I'm more interested in getting others to consider an alternate viewpoint.

I fervently hope that we keep open and active minds when reading opinions while engaging in peaceful and constructive discussion in an arena of mutual respect concerning those opinions offered. After twenty-three years of military intelligence, I believe that engaging each other in this manner, and in this arena, is a way we will learn tolerance and respect for differing beliefs, cultures, and viewpoints.

We all fall from grace, some more often than others; it is part of being human. God's test for us is what we learn from the experience... and what we do afterward.

Questioning Expressing, Revenge, Knowing, Lies, Smirks, and Questions

“The more you give up who you are to be liked by other people, it’s a formula for chipping away at your soul. You become a product of what everyone else wants, and not who you’re supposed to be.”
-- Sarah Frier

Is it wrong that I want to express everything, even if I know nothing will come of it, simply because I don't want to keep it inside and "weigh me down"?

I have no filter. As such, nothing is sacred. If it is a thought, it usually gets verbalized. I don’t keep much inside and certainly don’t let anything “weigh me down.” What I expect of myself, however, is what I express is valid. I try not to get in pissing contests with idiots, and there are plenty of them.
How are you your favourite hero?
I have a personal “code of ethics” that I stand behind. What kind of hero are you if you can’t stand behind a personal code of ethics?
Why do I dislike it when someone says “I appreciate you”?
“Well, thank you.” Doesn’t everybody appreciate me? This would be my comment back, not that I really care, but my mother brought me up to be polite. I’ve had to watch my P’s and Q’s in the military. My mother also said that my mouth would get me in trouble, and it usually did. I have no filter. But being polite and respectful helps a lot.
I oftentimes get lost in fantasies and unnecessary thoughts. Why is that?
Too much free time on your hands. You need more reality to focus on.
Why do a lot of rich people love upsetting and bullying people who are in poverty?
I haven’t experienced this, but why are many people in poverty so happy to take a monthly check that they don’t look for honest work? Maybe the rich will help those who are looking for a hand-up and ignore those looking for a handout. With all the crime exploding in the big cities, it amazes me that the working class hasn’t taken a stand against those not reporting for an eight-hour job.
Can it be true that vulnerability is not winning or losing, it’s having the courage to show up and be seen when we have no control over the outcome, vulnerability is not weakness, it’s our greatest measure of courage?
Indeed!
“Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy—the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.”
-- Brene Brown
Is revenge always a good idea in life?
No. Karma has its hands full of evil-doers to spend precious time spanking you for your “revenge” ideas. Karma will catch up to them sooner or later.
If you could have a conversation with your future self, what's the one burning question you'd ask, and what do you hope the answer would be?
“Why?” I hope the answer will be the truth, and not “Because.”
How do you learn to recognize your own unconscious assumptions? How do you learn to decide which are true and which are false, and which fall into a third group where you can't decide?
Become aware. Assumptions are assumptions, conscious or not. True or false is a matter of trial and error. As you become more aware, the “third group” will shrink to almost nothing, and your decisions and choices will be much better.
Would you recommend running a loyalty test on the one you love just to be sure if he/she is faithful?
If you date her for a few years, you’ll have done the test. If she truly loves you, you’ll know.
If you could travel to any country solely for its food, where would you go and what would you want to eat?
Mexico. Cubanas and street tacos. I went there for two years when I was just over 200 pounds. When I came back I was 165. I ate when I felt like it and drank beer and tequila. The food down there has little fat and I walked everywhere. It is a paradise for dieters.
Can people's ambitions reflect their true character?
Ambition can screw up one’s code of ethics, and their true character.
“The desire to reach for the stars is ambitious. The desire to reach hearts is wise.”
-- Maya Angelou
What one thing do you wish you had known about life when you were in your 20s?
Women and friendship. If I had known my wife better than I had, I wouldn’t have spent 25 years with her just to find she never loved me. It is a hard lesson to learn in your 40s that a solid friendship and true love can cement a marriage. It is a lesson my parents never taught me. I had to learn it on my own. I’ve been with my current girlfriend for over 20 years, and I am truly happy.
Is it common for people to hide the truth about reality?
They can try, but, in the end, the truth will come out.
What surprises you about your sense of humor?
I have grown to find almost anything funny. If someone gets pissed off, I find that funny, since if they dealt with it on a level playing field they would probably get more accomplished than they would by getting pissed. I will tell them… because I have no filter.
Where did you learn discipline?
The military.

How come I’m such a people pleaser? I always freak out if I think someone is mad at me or if they’re upset at me and I always end up taking the blame for things I didn’t even do just to end an argument and so the person isn’t mad at me.
You are more of a “submissive” than a people pleaser. A people pleaser can let the bullshit go. You, on the other hand, let it upset you to the point you will take the blame for things you didn’t do just so people won’t be mad at you. It will be simpler for you to bend over, drop trou, give them your belt, and tell them to spank you until they feel you’ve learned your lesson.

What are the greatest Socrates quotes?

Try these:

“To find yourself, think for yourself.”
“Strong minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, weak minds discuss people.”
“The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.”“I cannot teach anybody anything. I can only make them think”
-- Socrates
What is the craziest lie someone has told you to this day?

I came home on leave from Turkey and found a man’s sock under the bed. Not a sock I would buy. “It’s your sock.”
How do I answer the question “Who are you”?

I am me. Everyone else was taken and I made the best of it.

How come some addicts live a normal functioning life while others can't?

So, they’re an “addict” and you think this is a “normal functioning life”? They’re called an “addict” for a reason. Do you really want to lead with this?
Why do people not recognize that I am a troll?
People, in general, are not aware of “trolls” in society. But, you already know this.

I keep sketching 3 things over and over again. Is something wrong with me?

This is old technology. Your “record” has a scratch on it. Slap the side of your head and see if it skips over to normal.
Why is everything so boring to me now? I start yawning even trying to play video games I loved to play some years ago and every day feel like I'm wasting time doing nothing. I'm only 15, is something wrong with me?
Welcome to the onset of adulthood.

"When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things."
-- 1 Corinthians 13:11
Why is a smirk (often from bullies) seen as “bad/evil”?
A “smirk” is an unconscious “tell” that lets you know someone isn’t as good as they would like you to think they are. And, for bullies, well, other than being bad/evil, they’re just stupid to begin with. I mean, think about it. If they were “smart” they wouldn’t have to be bullies.
Why is everyone inferior except for me?
You find fault in everyone except yourself, and you think this trait is exceptional?
This might seem weird, but have you ever almost felt guilty for something you didn’t do just because someone accused you of it? You feel like the perception of others almost makes it feel like you did it even though you didn’t.

That hits me for about a few seconds. Then, I realized this person was psychotic, and they probably did it. I tell them to go find another patsy that might cop to it. I’m innocent.

How come I'm more clever than the weather?
You’re a legend in your own mind?

Why are memories never 100% correct?

Our memories are correct as to what we paid attention to. For instance, if there is music in the background, but we’re occupied, we don’t pay much attention to it, so we might remember the music, but the tune escapes us.

Why do people think it’s cool to cut up their vocabulary and use slang?
People are generally stupid, hence… slang. I use it, occasionally. It may be “cool” but, if you’re smart, like me, not so much. At times, I can hate myself.
“Slang is the suitcase of the damned, my dear. CHECK IT.”
-- Heather Cocks
How do you go ahead and ask your question?
Bingo! I think you have it.
Is it abnormal that I live in a fantasy world and try to make it a reality?
It is more abnormal to live in a fantasy world that you think you need to make a reality. Isn’t your fantasy world your reality? The fact that you can differentiate between fantasy and reality, makes one of them real.
How do I control a female’s mind?
Hah! Good luck! Remember, they’re from Venus.
Why do religious people believe in their faith and not others?
To believe in another religion, they would have to deny their own. It is one reason I am spiritual and not religious. I believe there is some truth to most religious thought. Of course, if the religious thought is radical, violent, heresy, probably not.
What are the lies that girls usually tell?
I’m a virgin. If they feel they need to say it, it probably isn’t true.
Do people who claim not to have beliefs exist?
Everybody has a belief, even if it’s that they exist or, perhaps, that they don’t. If they believe they don't believe in anything, they still believe.  So, in reality, people who claim they have no belief, must not exist.
“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.”
-- Philip K. Dick

Questioning Why, Questions, Here or There, Belief, Thought, and Caring

“Why?' He asked.
'Why what?' What could I say? Noah, despite you being an asshole, or maybe because of it, I'd like to rip off your clothes and have your babies. Don't tell.”
-- Michelle Hodkin

***************************************************

Note to my readers:  I don't mean to toot my own horn, but... I'm still averaging 10,000 views a week. Not bad for an always humble, semi-ancient, pie-hole philosopher, writing bathroom quasi-wisdom.  Not bad at all.

***************************************************

What shall I ask?
“Why?” Without a topic, no one can answer that, except by saying, “Because.”
Does social networking change our behavior?
It probably does, for many. I like to get out and visit my favorite haunts just so I don’t get hooked online. Face-to-face communication is so much more personal than online.
Who is the most powerful in this world who gives the right answer? I will give a gift.
Why?
What do you need to be completely satisfied with life?
True happiness. I strive to make true happiness a reality. I choose true happiness always and in all things, regardless of my circumstances. It is a simple choice we should all make for our lives. It is sustainable as long as you don’t change your choice, which would be counterproductive.
What does the saying "You are a wolf in the world of sheep but in the world of wolves, you are a sheep." mean?
You’re just a pussy. Time to man up!
All my life I thought I was good, I only felt and remembered feeling love. But around 15 years ago, I started to change. I became evil. But why have I only just realized? Can I change?
We can always change. It is a matter of making a choice and working toward it. You have already started your journey back to who you were by asking this question. What you want is obvious, now you have to reach out and work toward it.
“Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.”
-- Leo Tolstoy
How many potential [this site] questions are there?
Potential? Thousands, and probably thousands more. Questions are, virtually, endless.
Why is there more passion in forbidden love?
For one thing, it is forbidden. Any time something is “forbidden” it becomes that much more exciting. Forbidden means the rules are out the window and animal lust is in play. Animals just want to mate, again, and again, and…
Reader comment: There is increased adrenaline from the fear of getting caught.
If someone said, "Where are we going?" as a comeback, what would be a good response?
“To hell, if we aren’t careful.”
What is the best response to an atheist who says that life has no meaning?
Well, for one thing, they’re an atheist. Maybe they should try talking this out with God. He is a good listener. I’ve never got any negative feedback. Just saying.

What is marital status?
Are you single or married? That would be your status.
How can we react to someone saying "You seem like an angry person" without becoming angry or defensive?
I would laugh, because them saying this is laughable. I am anything but an “angry” person. As a matter of fact, the people around me would probably start laughing.
“Anybody can become angry — that is easy, but to be angry with the right person and to the right degree and at the right time and for the right purpose, and in the right way — that is not within everybody's power and is not easy.”
-- Aristotle
Can we say "I am here" or do we have to say "I am there"?
If you’re there, you still say “I am there.” If you’re here, you can say "I am here." You can’t say you are here when you are, really, there. Wait… I’m getting confused.

“Are you there?”
“Yes, I’m here.”
“So, you’re here?”
“If I were there, you would see me. I’m here, at the library.”
“Oh, so you’re there.”
“Yes, I’m here.”
"But, you just said…”
Oh my God…”
Why is a man jealous of a man?
The man has what the jealous man wants. Nowadays, a woman can have what the jealous man wants. It makes no difference to the jealous man, especially if it involves a love interest.
Is a guy groping a guy’s ass?
I don’t know. Is he?
How do you respond to, "What if God isn't real?"
What if God is real? In reality, neither side has any “proof” to back up their claim. What Christians say about God, may be what they get from biblical text, not from any reality. In reality, God may be simply the energy that creates all things. Whether the energy is “sentient” or not, is the big question. For atheists to deny an omnipotent energy in the universe, well, that is a question they will answer upon death. But, maybe not. If you don't truly believe, will you be reborn? The questions keep on coming.
Reader comment: The null hypothesis is assumed correct until evidence proves the test hypothesis. So until theists provide evidence for a god, the. Then there is no god by default. The only group that must provide evidence are those that claim the fanciful.

My reply:  Spoken like a true atheist. You can’t assume a “null hypothesis” if there is no proof either way. To “assume” you will eventually make an ass out of you and me.
Is ignorance a legitimate excuse for spiritual unbelief?
No.
You're at a party and the conversation turns to religion. Everyone around you is talking about how they believe in God. You open your mouth to express your atheist viewpoint and they all turn around and start laughing in your face. What do you do?
It is an opinion. You voiced it. For them to start laughing and having no proof for their own belief, is pretty stupid. Faith is a belief in something for which there is little or no proof. And they should respect that, or come up with incontrovertible proof for their pudding, which niether side can not.
“The function of prayer is not to influence God, but rather to change the nature of the one who prays.”
-- Soren Kierkegaard

How would your life change if you believed in God?
Life doesn’t end with death. There is an afterlife to look forward to.

What’s keeping Christianity and Islam from fading away into myth, unbelief, and superstition like all of the other gods such as Norse gods, Greek gods, etc.? What makes them so special?
What makes one think that it won’t fade into myth like all the others? Our version of God has weathered the storm of controversy, so far. But, whether it continues to do so is up to man, and what he believes. Atheism has a good foothold, with mankind, and the only proof will be revealed when we die. For atheists, there will be nothing. But, for those who believe in God and a life after death, there may be salvation. It is yet to be proven, however.
What does it mean when someone says, “I’ll more than likely be there.”?
They aren’t sure, but they will try and more likely succeed.
What does it mean if someone asks if you love them?
They want to know if you love them. They probably want to know how you feel so they can make their own decision about you, as well. You can read more into it, but, at a basic level, it is a simple question they’d like an honest answer to.
What should be the reply to, “Do you love me?” from a boyfriend or girlfriend?
An honest answer of “yes” or “no” would be nice.
What are some things we should not call God?
It would seem that nothing but the Lord, God, Yahweh, or I AM, would be suitable.

“And God said unto Moses, ‘I AM THAT I AM. Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.’”
-- Exodus 3:14
How can a man that thinks he’s so smart be so dumb?
Because he thinks, instead of knowing.
What are some ways of being aware of something before telling out?
Being “aware” is not enough. What you see or hear might be wrong. You need to do your due diligence and become aware of the facts… before you make a fool of yourself.
How do I reply to a married man who said that he wants me?
“Divorce your wife. When that is done, tell me how your loyalty will be different with me.”
Do narcissists treat their husbands right?
Not if they're a true narcissist. The husband must have a submissive personality to tolerate their wife’s narcissistic personality. She is always on top, so to speak.
Is it common for men to feel that sleeping with a virgin is boring?
Not at all. The class begins in five minutes. It might be painful, but, be prepared to learn.
How many wealthy people are smart?
I’d say that most of them are not only intelligent but pretty damned smart, as well. People generally don’t get wealthy by being average unless they inherit or hit the lottery. They have to work at it.
“The Vikings thought they were big shots because they had boats. You know how obnoxious people get when they own a boat. They always want to go on the boat. "We're taking the boat out this weekend. It's supposed to be beautiful. Why don't you come? You never come. You're always working. You know how many people wish they would get invited to come on the boat? And you turn it down.”
-- Colin Quinn

If you ignore and refuse to talk to someone, does that mean you don’t care, or you punished them?
I never ignore or refuse to talk to anyone, except my ex-wife. I haven’t said a word to her for 23 years, and I’m better for it. It is a punishment that she doesn't recognize.
May we see you naked with a hard-on?
Are you all women? Let me see you all naked with rigid nipples, and we'll talk.
What does it mean if you're constantly bored despite having an above-average IQ?
You aren’t trying… at anything. With an above-average IQ, you should be focused on something. I'm retired for the second time, and I still focus constantly.
Is it normal to be convinced you can never be with someone after so many people hurt you?
Yes, but you find that someone wants to be with you. After my divorce from a 25-year marriage, I was convinced that I could not make myself happy. But, all the women around me thought my wife was an idiot. What I had convinced myself, was wrong. I started dating a better class of women until a woman asked me out on a date. I’ve been with her for about 20 years.
What are the benefits of dating someone who has many interests, hobbies, or talents?
If they include you, you will never be bored.
Why do so many questions with a false or misguided premise get asked on [this site]? Are they some sort of tongue-in-cheek provocation or are some people so absolutely stupid?
People, in general, use this site to ask honest questions they have no clue about, hence the false or misguided premise. People aren’t as stupid as they are looking for a reasonable answer to what they think is a reasonable question. You have asked many questions in your life, and that hasn’t defined you as, necessarily, stupid. Has it?
"The only stupid question is the question that is never asked."

Do We Take Faith for Granted? (Updated from 12/30/2014)

"Accept what Is,
let go of what was
and have faith in what will be."

What is religious persecution?  Many of us older folks have a pretty good grasp of it from learning world history in school.  If they taught unbiased world history nowadays, many young people would probably also know something about it.  However, we change history to fit whatever agenda is popular for the day.

After a battle, the victor gets to write the history of it.  It is one reason why children, anywhere but in the southern U.S., have no clue what the Civil War was really about, and the atrocities that were visited upon the South by the North.  One hundred and fifty years later the South is finally rising from the ashes, due to northern immigration, but Mississippi remains the poorest state in the Union.  But still, the majority has faith that what they are taught is the untainted truth, politicians don't lie, and your doctor isn't "practicing" medicine.  It makes one wonder if our faith might be best left in a future context; "in what will be."

So, historical accuracy, the failing of our educational system, and my rambling all set aside, what do we really know about religious persecution?  And what does any of this have to do with faith?  Well, Wikipedia says this:
Religious persecution is the systematic mistreatment of an individual or group of individuals as a response to their religious beliefs or affiliations or lack thereof.
As I interpret this definition, atheists who constantly create legal issues and problems for Christians and other faiths, are perpetrators of religious persecution.  By the same token, religions that make problems for atheists, not involved in religious persecution, would be guilty of the same persecution due to the atheist's "lack thereof."  I would be very interested to know if the atheists who visit these problems upon people of religious faith understand they are participating in the religious persecution of a group of people.  My interest would be in knowing how their sense of morality excuses their actions as being more righteous than that of a theist.

I have been fairly forgiving in the preceding paragraph for two reasons.  I have never heard of atheist groups causing problems for any other faith than Christianity, and I have never heard of any faith causing atheist issues unless the atheist cast the first stone.  It just seems like the League of the Perpetually Offended only has one religious target - Christianity.

The group, Open Doors, has been empowering persecuted Christians throughout the world for over sixty years.  They define Christian persecution this way:
Christian persecution is any hostility experienced from the world as a result of one's identification as a Christian.  From verbal harassment to hostile feelings, attitudes and actions, Christians in areas with severe religious restrictions pay a heavy price for their faith.
Think about this group, Open Doors, for a moment.  Before sixty years ago, Christian persecution was so bad they felt it necessary to create a group that is still actively empowering persecuted Christians to this day.  How much do you know about ongoing Christian persecution?  I knew very little until the recent Middle East unpleasantness, and then I researched this post.  I took my faith for granted.  I took it for granted until Islamic heretics in ISIS put children to death for not renouncing their Christian faith.  I took it for granted when Muslims were put to death by the same heretics for not renouncing their sect of Islam to follow radical Islam's heretical interpretation of the Qur'an.  When man blasphemes the word of God to fulfill their own sick agenda for power, we are truly entering the end of days.

Do you take your faith for granted? Ask yourself this question, "Could you give up your life for your faith?"  This is the question posed by historian Tim Stanley in his article of the same name that appeared in The Catholic Herald on December 9, 2014.  In the article, he relates a story:
A family of missionaries are captured by the Communists in Africa, and the Reds say to the father: “If you deny the existence of God, we’ll let your wife and daughter go.” The father is about to renounce Jesus when his little girl takes his hand. “Don’t do it, Daddy,” she says. “Let’s die together as a family. We'll be lost in this life but saved in the next.”
Accept what is, let go of what was, and have faith in what will be.  One must never take faith for granted.  You can accept Christ without forsaking the rest of the world.  By the same token, one must not accept faith instead of a "God helps those that help themselves" philosophy.  Some say, "Well, God will help me."  Then they sit back and wait for that "help" to arrive.  But the mere term "helping" someone presupposes the person in need is working toward a goal and needs a leg up.  If you're just sitting there on your lazy ass waiting, what you're really saying is, "God, do for me!"

If I were God, I'd answer, "Hold your breath.  I'll get back to you"

Just because I'm here for you all of the time,
doesn't mean you can take me for granted.

Another way of looking at faith is the "parachute" principle.  I have faith my parachute was packed correctly.  Do you really?  I think God will respect you more if you double-check it, then check your buddies as well, and then have them recheck yours.  There is a thin line between bravery and stupidity.  I think that's kind of like faith.  God wants you to have faith that he gave you the intelligence and sense to learn how to pack a parachute and check it, before jumping out of a perfectly good aircraft.  I believe God is always on the lookout for ways to balance life and death.  Stupid people make this easy by taking faith for granted.

Look at it from another direction.  George packs your chute in the hanger, it's George's job.  You like George, and trust him, with your life.  George got his "pink slip" this morning, and his wife just filed for divorce and took the kids.  Still, trust George with your life?  Ignorance is bliss, right?  What you don't know can't hurt you?  What could go wrong?  How is your faith holding up now?  If you didn't have to take on the responsibility for your faith, faith would be tantamount to a crap shoot; having faith that you can do nothing for yourself and still make it through life.  "God, do for me!"  It sounds a bit demanding; saying volumes without uttering a word.

I'd rather ask God to help me make it through.  Grant me the strength to better myself.  Help me up when I fall, and help me stay the course.

I was like this in the military.  I was always being put in for this award or that, and I was always runner-up because I didn't suck up.  I finally told everyone to stop putting me in for awards.  It meant more to me if they just gave me a pat on the back and said, good job, keep up the good work.  Everyone seems to get caught up in bragging rights, and the benefits that are due them.  I just wanted to do the job.  I don't want God to do for me, as I don't consider myself greedy in the least, but I wouldn't mind a pat on the back occasionally, just to let me know I'm on the right path.  I am blessed that God does this daily.  Every morning I wake up and am treated to more proof.  I have faith that, through my efforts today, I will wake up tomorrow and enjoy more of God's miracle of life.

I accept what is, have let go of what was, and I have faith, though honest effort, in what will be.

This is faith.  I pray I never take it for granted.
"No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country.  He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country."
-- Gen. George S. Patton
My view on faith and religious persecution; I don't plan on ever being put in the position, by some religious heretic, some insane sociopath, to make a choice about my religion or my faith.  I will either make the other poor dumb bastard die, or I will die trying.  They can persecute me to death.  I have much faith that their efforts will go unrewarded.  But, to deny Christ?  I don't know, it would seem we Christians deny Him enough already by taking our faith in Him for granted.  I guess when it comes to someone dictating faith, religion, or my freedom, I would also choose to live free or die trying.

I might be lost in this life, but I will be saved in the next.  I have faith.
