Questioning Balance, Bullshit, Expectation, Woke, and Respect

"Everyone against abortion please raise your hand."

Note to my readers:  I fully expect to catch hell from the League of the Perpetually Offended whenever I post abortion-related content.  My firm belief is that many of them have little concept of murder, nor have they "enjoyed" graphic photos of aborted children.  I spent over 22 years with military intelligence.  I do my research.   I've seen images that are too horrific to comprehend... I thought.  It's early in the morning and, luckily, I haven't had breafast.  While researching a photo to use for this post, I came close to dry heaves.  I am including a site address for those with strong constitutions.  If you're on the fence, take a peek, but, if you do, have the big brass ones to continue reviewing the site to the bottom of the page.  It's a eye-opener.  You won't want to, but keep them opened:  Abortion: Images-Galleries

Would things get better or worse if humans focused on what's going well rather than what's going wrong?

Worse. There isn’t that much going right, at least not in the United States. If we take our eyes off everything wrong to focus on the few things right, we’ll be in a worse situation than we already are. If we all had administrations that weren’t focused on destroying their countries, then we’d be a lot better off. Nothing happens “overnight” but there are unrealistic factions that think it can. We need to crawl before we walk, and walk before we run, or we will fall down hard.
What's something that a statesman says that made you question their credibility?
I can’t repeat everything Joe Biden has uttered.
How true is it that if you are influenced by the opinions of others, you will have no desire of your own?

Nope. I find myself constantly at odds with the League of the Perpetually Offended. Even the thought of them influencing me, with their lack of cogent thought, would mean I’m seriously conflicted where reality is concerned. I have my own desires and opinions, and I prefer those have some basis in reality. God is another question, but, at least, I recognize the need for “faith” on both sides of the discussion, faith being a belief in something for which there is little or no proof. Where God is concerned, neither side has any proof. I will continue to have faith and hope for all humankind. The “League” can kiss my wrinkled, rosy cheeks, God bless their little hearts.
Is keeping things simple easy or difficult for you?
I was taught from an early age to “Keep It Simple Stupid” (KISS). I brought that into the military where they also paid it homage. Nothing can be easier than keeping it simple.
What are some practices that do not show respect for life?
Abortion. Nuff said.
"The spirit God has given us is no cowardly spirit."
-- 2 Timothy 1:7

How exactly does a person integrate their light and dark side?

The first thing you need to do is decide which will be dominant. Your light side had better be sitting on the dark side or you’ll always be in trouble. I can interrogate someone with a plastic butter knife, this would be the dark side of me (don’t ask). My light side ensures it doesn’t happen (bloodcurdling screams notwithstanding). It is all about balance. Just because you can do a thing doesn’t mean you should do that thing.
Is power a problem for you?
Nope. I get a bill every month.
What are some of the unlikeliest sources that have helped you develop your personal moral code?
The United States Air Force was the source I didn’t expect. I thought, erroneously, that my family would take care of this. Over the course of almost 23 years, I learned the value of hard work, deterrence, supervision, management, and, most of all, respect. From this, I was able to cobble together my own personal moral code of personal ethics which, still, defines who and why I am to all those around me.
Why do companies usually or always solicit feedback but never quite make the needed or suggested changes? Is it all for show?
Yep. They put forward a “kinder, gentler” company persona while, in the background, they really don’t give as shit.
Reckless thought got us here. Will careful thought get us out of it?
Careful thought got us out before the current “reckless thought” and it can do it again. It is up to the voters to get their heads right. A dishwasher can’t afford a $40,000 green vehicle any more than society can afford to subsidize it.
“Remember that it is quicker to destroy than build, so be careful of what you do even with your own tongue.”
-- Gift Gugu Mona
Can you give what you expect from another?
All the time. The problem is in “expecting” the same. I prefer not to expect anything back for what I give. It makes giving so much easier.
What is the most humble position that you know?
Looking down, so you can see the path ahead of you.
Why is the current situation, whether good or bad, the result of our choices?
Everything that happens to us, as adults, is due to some choice or decision we made. If you forgot your keys and had to go back inside the house to get them, and then had an accident with another car that ran a stop sign, the fact you went back inside put you in the situation that leaving on time might have corrected. Choosing to leave on time would have been a better choice, though that choice might have another consequence.
Do corrupt people want power, or does power corrupt?
Corruption is due to greed. Greed corrupts, and, if you’re greedy for power, the power you seek is already corrupted by your greed for it.
Is a sore loser or a sore winner generally considered to be worse?
I’ve never experienced a “sore winner” before, so I’d have to say a “sore loser” is worse. Sore winners would be counterproductive to winning, wouldn’t it?
"Someone told me I'm a sore winner, and they're right. I rarely take more than a moment to enjoy a success before I'm moving on and looking for the next challenge."
-- Eli Broad
What is another way of saying “awake but not woke”, and when did this expression become popular?
Aware, as opposed to clueless. It was never popular, but it was accepted by a minority of the population who actually bought into it. It has become “popular” among many who became aware of its insidious socialist underpinnings that are trying to take over the young minds in our country. The “woke” are about to become aware.
Can an advocate own a business?
Equate being an “advocate” to having a hobby. You can own a business and be an advocate, depending on how much time your “hobby” demands.
How does personal identity persist through time?
It doesn’t, not really. Every moment we live, we learn. Everything we learn changes us, to some degree. Who we are and, very possibly, why we are, morphs us, sometimes imperceptibly. We may think we’re the same as we used to be, but if we seriously look back, we will see how different we really are from who we were.
Why do humans always try to solve problems with war?
Humans are inherently stupid. Humans can’t “solve problems with war” when war is the problem. If humans want to solve the problems, stop waging war.
What are the things that are least worth worrying about, not so important, but waste your time, and energy, and unnecessarily pollute your life in the end?
The many ways we can die. If it isn’t your health, and if you mitigate death-defying stunts, then worrying about dying in a vehicle, walking, riding a bike, etc., should be a great waste of time better spent worrying about getting fired, pregnant, making mistakes, and failing, and even these should be viewed as opportunities to learn and grow. We worry too damned much.
“If a problem is fixable, if a situation is such that you can do something about it, then there is no need to worry. If it's not fixable, then there is no help in worrying. There is no benefit in worrying whatsoever.”
-- Dalai Lama XIV
It is based on positive thinking yet it requires you to be suspicious of the intention of others?
Good sense?
Is it logical and productive to give up all rights to respond to tragedies?
No. Responding can be a coping mechanism. Can you imagine if you didn’t respond, in some way, and people died? And if people died, and you didn’t emotionally respond in some way, how their death might adversely affect your wellbeing?
What if you know you have to do something but don’t know where to start?
Exercise, so I can lose some weight.
Why are rich people so arrogant and look down on less fortunate people?
There are some very wealthy people who aren’t all this, but I think, for the most part, they are arrogant, and they lack respect and understanding of other people’s situations and consequences. There are those few who actually try to give a “hand up” to those who want it.
What happens when you try and please everybody?
Try this on, for size:
“I can't give you a sure-fire formula for success, but I can give you a formula for failure: try to please everybody all the time.”
-- Herbert Bayard Swope

Before you go getting your panties in a bunch, it is essential to understand that this is just an opinion site and, as such, can be subjected to scrutiny by anyone with a differing opinion. It doesn't make either opinion any more right or wrong than the other. An opinion, presented in this context, is a way of inciting others to think and, hopefully, to form opinions of their own, if they haven't already done so. This is also why, occasionally, I will present an "opinion" just to stir an emotional pot. Where it may sound like I agree with the statements made, I'm more interested in getting others to consider an alternate viewpoint.

It is my fervent hope that we keep open and active minds when reading opinions and while engaging in peaceful and constructive discussion, in an arena of mutual respect, concerning those opinions put forth. After over twenty years with military intelligence, I have come to believe engaging each other in this manner and in this arena is the way we will learn tolerance and respect for differing beliefs, cultures, and viewpoints.

The Root of All Evil? (Updated from the original posted on 9/20/13)

"For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."
-- Timothy 6:10

Is "the love of money" the root of all evil? Maybe not so much, anymore. It's been made easier to go on welfare than it is to work. And, if you're not willing to work, why would you want to make the effort to steal? Most people not working, I see them on street corners with a sign, lying for any money that comes their way, and lots of them can't even do that right. I suppose the root of evil would be in the argument that they are lying to get the money, so that, in itself, evidences evil in the activity.

In reality, the phrase really held no water from its inception. Murder, rape, and child molestation are not done for money. Well, not always, and they're all still evil.  Some, more so.

Then, there is Christian Ballard.

In 2013, Christian just up and walked away from the Minnesota Vikings training camp. What? But, what of the money? That pro football paycheck? Seems like Christian had an epiphany, which he stated in his own words during an interview:  "I wasn't really having a good time playing football. It wasn't fun for me. It wasn't a blast for me. Making that much money, was fun. But money is still a material thing. You can always make money. You can't make that time that you lose with your friends and your loved ones. Time is something that you can never get back."

So Christian discovered that the money wasn't enough, there was more to life. He will continue his education and spend more time with his son. For some, the lure of lights, cameras, and fame is what they live for. For others, like Christian, perhaps the lure was there but the fame and the money just weren't everything they hoped for.  I like Christian.

Sometimes money really isn't everything. Like Christian says, "You can always make money." I would like to get this across to the panhandlers on those street corners, but they have no intention of looking for a job.  This is evidenced by them occupying the same street corners year after year. You can't look for work if your feet are cemented to a curb.

Christian is also right about not being able to get back the time you lose. I know this from experience. I lost much of the time in my daughter's life, and a bit of my son's, due to a messy divorce. It is time I will never get back. More than money, time is the most precious commodity. Many of us have not had that realization yet. But, then, many of us have but refuse to admit it to ourselves. Too busy making money.

"Love of money" isn't always the root of all evil, any more than "time heals all wounds."  I think money is supposed to make life a bit easier, so we can enjoy the time and the people we have here on earth. You don't need a lot of money, just enough to allow you to have the time. We get caught in the vicious cycle caused by our desire for "stuff," mistakenly thinking that this "stuff" will make our lives fuller and happier. We work ourselves to death trying to keep this lifestyle of "stuff." God forbid we should lose it all, we'd kill ourselves. Over stuff? It's just stuff!  It really isn't worth one's life.

I wake up every morning, knowing I have food and a roof, clothing, and a little cash in the bank. I have two children that are thriving, two grandchildren that are precious, and my mom is still alive (another gift). I am blessed with what I have. If I had no job and no money, I would still consider myself rich with all I do have.  I know this because I've been there and done that.  Instead of replacing my pride with an unemployment check, I rejoined the Air Force.  But, I'll always be rich.

What makes you rich?

“It is impossible to escape the impression that people commonly use false standards of measurement — that they seek power, success and wealth for themselves and admire them in others, and that they underestimate what is of true value in life.”
-- Sigmund Freud

Questioning Minefields, Striving, Humility, Misery, and Losers

“The subconscious is a minefield of unwanted rote thoughts.”
-- Steven Redhead

******************************
A note to my readers: I'm continuing to update the statistics for those who'd like to follow with me and we'll see where it levels off, which it doesn't seem willing to do.
The following was touted by the site I answer questions on as being "featured" in over 100,000 individual reader digests. The answer was posted on March 30, 2022, and, to date, has been viewed by over 375,400 people, and has been upvoted 4,927 times, and counting. I assume because it was "featured" this is a big deal, whatever "featured" means. I will contine to share it, as I get more information.  And, for those who haven't read it:

Did you ever get a request for a favor from a neighbor who never showed any respect or interest in you or your family? What did you do?
The guy next door. He asked if he could cut down a rotting tree the raccoons use. Wanted to bill me $2000 for a $500 job. I told him not to touch it. He cut it down anyway, when I wasn’t around, then billed me $2000. My legal team, lawyers from Louisiana and Mississippi, both advised me to tell him to go f*** himself. You have to love Southern lawyers. I cleaned the language up and sent him a form letter concerning trespass, ignorance, and the fact that he wouldn’t be getting any money out of me. (Last lines have been updated) We don't talk, not because I'm not willing, but because he seems to think he's all that. He flies a Marine Corps flag. So far, I'm not impressed.
******************************

Is the saying minefield or mindfield?

Minefield, and you don’t want to be in the middle of one.

Would you agree that this nation would be far better off if people would just mind their own business?

No. The world is our business, as we are to the world. If we stopped paying attention, we will be speaking Chinese in short order. The socialist and communist sympathizers may have us speaking it anyway, at least those of us that won’t fight for our freedoms.
What are many people generally thinking of the future, starting in 2022?
We need a new leader of the free world… while we still have a world.
Do you think your flaws are associated with your strengths?
Probably. There must be balance in the universe. For every strength, therefore, there must be a flaw.
What’s better in daily life, more thinking and less acting or less thinking and more acting because I cannot make the balance?
Acting without thought can get you in trouble. Thinking without action is a waste of creative thought. There must be balance, but in the absence of balance, I would go with thought without action.
“Avoid blind compliance. Ask questions.”
-- Mimi Ikonn
Should I always be positive?
Ask yourself, what does it benefit you to be always negative? People, in general, tend to balance the negative with the positive, even though they abhor being around someone who is always negative. Better you should be positive and be the light for all those around you.
What is that change you desperately need to see?
The President of the United States.
What are the downsides to a person being a striver?
They tend to become focussed on what they’re striving for. There is a real danger of losing sight of something else just as important, or more so.
As political rhetoric becomes increasingly unhinged, protests escalate, and law-abiding American citizens fear more for themselves and their families…is the public's patience beginning to run thin with the Democrat party?
Ya think?
Is it possible to be corrupt and a good person?
If no one knows about your corruption, then, outwardly you can act like a “good “ person, even though you are corrupt and, therefore, not.
“Power attracts the corruptible. Suspect any who seek it.”
-- Frank Herbert
Am I a bad person for giving kindness to people who don’t deserve any?
No. If anything, you are being charitable to those who don’t deserve any. It might just change them for the better.

Why do I never mind losing if others lose too, but if I lose and others don't, I mind?
You don’t like being the only loser. Misery loves company.
Why is it important to cultivate humility and concern for others?
Pride is so less important than charity. I think most people, if honest, would say they are jealous of someone who is humble and doing the right thing for others.

What's your definition of success? Has it changed over time?

Success is true happiness. You can’t purchase true happiness, therefore, when you choose to have it, it will be sustainable throughout your life as long as you do not change your choice.

We are taught, from the youngest age, that attaining a goal is a success. It really isn’t. You can be miserable while attaining a goal, then experience a moment of happiness that you are finished before you start the next task.

Sustainable happiness is with you always and in all things, regardless of your circumstances. To be any other way is simply counterproductive and really sucks.
What is your go-to treat when you want to reward yourself for something? How has this changed over the years?
Pastry. Nope, always been pastry. Doughnuts, apple fritters, pie, cake, cookies, basically any kind of pastry.
"Good food is the foundation of genuine happiness."
-- Auguste Escoffier
Is it ever a good idea to be vindictive?
No. It might make you feel better, but vindictiveness is nothing more than revenge. Sometimes the karma that befalls the vengeful is worse than what befalls the person who we think deserves it. Better to be charitable and forgive them for being such a thoughtless asshole.
What happens when you see that everything around you is not happening?
I must become the impetus for anything I want happening around me.
Are we meant to be miserable?
Misery is a choice. If someone or something makes you miserable, you have chosen to let it happen. It is so much better for the soul to not allow misery into your life. If misery is thrust upon you, find a way to get rid of it quickly. Try giving it back to the person who gave it to you.
How do I know if I am actually striving toward the good and not towards something that merely appears to be good?
Research it. Know everything you can about what you’re striving toward. Unfortunately, people usually find out too late. It’s like taking a bite of cherry pie only to find out its rhubarb.
What does it mean to honor your parents? What are you supposed to do with parents who damaged you though? I mean do you not tell them what you are upset about?

Honesty is always best in the long run. I honesty fails, honor those who mentor you. If those who gave you life abuse the gift, then honor those who don’t. I am friends with a young lady who is always at odds with her stepparents. I have always mentored her and cared for her friendship. She thanked me, one day, for helping to make her into the woman she is today. High praise, and I was humbled by one who I love dearly. If you can’t honor your parents, then honor those who act like parents.
“Neither the Ten Commandments nor the Bible elsewhere commands us to love our parents. This is particularly striking given that the Bible commands us to love our neighbor, to love God, and to love the stranger. The Bible understands that there will always be individuals who, for whatever reason, do not love a parent. Therefore, it does not demand what may be psychologically or emotionally impossible. But it does demand that we show honor to our parents. And it makes this demand only with regard to parents. There is no one else whom the Bible commands us to honor.”
-- Dennis Prager
As a winner, why is it considered poor form to keep reminding the loser that they lost?
It comes down to rubbing salt in an opened wound. You won, so congratulate your opponent for a game well played, and leave it alone. To do anything else will put the hounds at your heels - everyone will want a piece of you and, sooner or later, you’ll be the loser. Nobody likes a braggart.
What part will an uneducated humble and loyal person play in an oil and gas company if employed?
So, a round peg in a square hole. Limo driver for the CEO? Mailroom? Security?

How do leaders cope with the fact that: "People who worship the king also want him dead"? Everyone wants the power the king has, so how does the metaphorical king cope, if at all? How do you handle people who admire you but also wish for your demise?
You don’t, or you become what they wish to kill. The best thing a leader can do is be a leader for the people. Be firm but fair, honest, and forthright. You don’t want their worship, you want their respect. Be ready to fight with your people to defend what you lead. You can please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time. It’s just the way it is.

What is it called when someone steps in and lectures you on something (similar to preaching to the choir) as though they don't know that the nature of your situation itself has caused you of all people to know that life lesson better than they do?
Ignorance.
How can someone support your reasoning, yet prove you wrong? Is there a term for this?
Your reasoning can be very valid, but it doesn’t support the outcome. If a person always wins, it stands to reason he will continue to win? The reasoning is sound, but the odds are against them. The conclusion doesn’t follow sound reasoning. Non-sequitur, comes to mind.
“The great thing about ten-year-olds is they don't balk at non-sequiturs.”
-- Rebecca Makkai

Questioning God, Plans, Goodness, Salvation, and Science

"I devoted a significant portion of my academic training on Holocaust studies and yet, I had no idea that Bayer was the original name of I.G. Farben. And, I certainly didn’t know that I.G. Farben, as a corporate name, was replaced by a rebirth of Bayer I.A...

...Bayer did not make reparations despite the fact that it was part of the corporate punishment. That’s not okay with me. I am dismayed that major corporations (then and now) continue to exercise power and privilege over people who are powerless to stop them or to insist that they are held responsible for the havoc they inflict on others. There is precious little any of us can do about it but at least if we are aware of who they were/are we can make choices about using their products. How we stand on these issues today may reflect where would have stood in 1939."
-- Rosemary Huskey

Why do you need God to change your life?

I don’t. God gave me everything I need, before I was ever born, to make changes in my life. It is up to me to decide if I do it morally and ethically, or not.
How can you prevent yourself from making bad "in the moment" decisions that lead to long-term consequences?

Very seldom do decisions need to be made in the spur of the moment. A good deal today will be a good deal tomorrow. Cars go on sale every year, and the last one on the lot can be reordered. Take time to think before you act. Ask friends and family. Gather all the information you can to enable you to make the best decision. It isn’t foolproof, but you will look the fool so much less often.

Are people often say that the dropouts are quitters who can't draw a line between success and failure?

Define success. Have they, after dropping out, attained any personal goals? Have they been truly happy always while doing it? If they have attained the goals they’re after, and are truly happy, for them they are very successful.
How can you show justness and sincerity in the performance of your work?
I stand by my code of personal ethics. If you develop a good code of ethics you can always stand by, you will find it hard to waver in the justness and sincerity of anything you do. As far as “showing” it, I don’t do it to show. I do it because it is the right thing to do. If you’re looking you will see it, if not, well, there’s nothing I can do to make you pay better attention. This is who I am, and those who know me, know this.

How can I get motivated to do something I don't want to do?

If you’re not getting paid, you have a choice. Do it, or not, it’s all up to you. If you choose to do it, then put all of you into the project, or don’t do it. A life that is “kind of” is no kind of life.
“It’s only after you’ve stepped outside your comfort zone that you begin to change, grow, and transform.”
-- Roy T. Bennett
What is plan implementation?
It is when you implement the plan. Is this a trick question?
What do you do to help others and make a difference?
If they ask for help, I’m there for them. I also purchase food and supplies for the local church soup kitchen when I have the funds. Whatever you do, make sure you do it selflessly. I never expect anything in return for doing what’s right.
Is the saying “right off the bat” or “back”?
Bat.
How will the civil servants be accountable for their actions?
Through good management and supervision. If they are voted in, they can also be voted out. If they are assigned, those who chose them can bear the brunt of misery for their choice.
For those who have achieved it at a satisfactory level, if you were to recommend a reading list for someone down on their luck to turn their finances, relationships, happiness, and health around from scratch, what books would you include in the list?
Almost any book that deals with the philosophy of those subjects, and the collected works of Leo Buscaglia for more on relationships and happiness. If you’re down on your luck, most of this can be found in your local library, or online. Reading ability is terrible to waste, so exercise it constantly.
How likely is it that someone is doing the same thing as me right now?
No matter how immoral it may be, yes, it is likely.
Is a good citizen always a good person? Is a good person always a good citizen?
No. One has nothing to do with the other. Politicians are the worst for this. One can only hope that everyone is a good person and a good citizen. It is difficult enough to find one, much less both.
Do you believe in luck over deliberate actionable projections?
No. I believe in knowledge, hard work, and perseverance. When I’ve run all of that to ground, I can, then, hope that everything I’ve done is enough.
Who takes care of you when your job is to take care of others?
I do. If you rely on others, they will probably disappoint. I am the only one I can trust to support me 24/7/365. in 50 years of my adult life, I haven’t failed me… yet. Even during my messy divorce, I was always there for myself. I am the only one who determines when I need assistance.
“Self-care is never a selfish act - it is simply good stewardship of the only gift I have, the gift I was put on earth to offer others. Anytime we can listen to true self and give the care it requires, we do it not only for ourselves but for the many others whose lives we touch.”
-- Parker Palmer
How are you living before death?
Constantly happy and without unwanted drama. I need to fish more.
You can't stop your opponent from doing whatever he wants unless you know the precise moment when he would next strike. Do you agree or disagree?
This is situational. A violent criminal should be shot at the first opportunity. Why wait? Shooting him stops him in his tracks, so no more worrying about his evil ass.

The second point, if he is your opponent, why isn’t he worried about where you’ll strike next? This becomes a two-way street when you’re opponents.

The third point, and most important, is that he has to sleep sometime. Figure this out before your opponent does. Gerber survival knives are a godsend.

The fourth, and optional, become very familiar with the M24 sniper rifle. It helps the situation if your opponent knows you can reach out and touch him from almost a mile away. He might just choose to bother someone less lethal.
What are the hindrances to salvation?
Sin. In particular, the cardinal sins. Aren’t they all?
What makes you matter in life?
I live. If I died, I would no longer matter, except for those people to who I mattered. So, for everybody’s benefit, I live. The alternative, to my way of thinking, simply sucks. Any day on this side of the dirt is a good day.
What did you request help for, and did it help come?
When my dad had his strokes. God bless the first responders, they were here in minutes.
“Answer the urgent call. Help when tragedy strikes. And do it for free.”
-- Isabella Koldras

Science is good, yes, but what are some of the evils and ways that science has made human lives difficult?

Bayer Pharmaceuticals was doing research for the Nazis. They had an endless supply of “volunteers” to experiment on. It would be hard to believe they didn’t make human lives difficult. I have included some research: Bayer - Wikipedia
What is the best definition of ‘exigence’?
An “urgent need or demand” for something. — Oxford Languages
How do we know that someone is trying to embarrass us?
When what they’re doing or saying has the real possibility of embarrassing you. Personally, I find it humorous that they would think it says more about me than it does about them. I let them head on and, then, when the moment is right, drop the hammer and have it backfire in their face. It is hard to embarrass people who could really care less.
When should we judge the past by the standards of today?
Never. The past is what it is. Learn from it. Try judging today by the standards of the past.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely. But why? You worked hard and have more toys to play with now. Is it that simple?
“An observation that a person's sense of morality lessens as his or her power increases.”Dictionary.com

How hard you work for power and toys is a measure of your morality. Adolf Hitler was a prime example of this quote. And, yes, for all intents and purposes, it is that simple.
“Absolute power corrupts absolutely.”

Where are you headed? (Updated from the original post dated 8/14/13)

Four young students from a local high school were sitting on a  park bench one afternoon, just hanging out, when they saw an old man walking down the dirt country road beside the park.

The elderly gentleman had a pack slung over one shoulder and used a long, decorated, walking stick that tapped a cadence to his stride and clattered and jingled with numerous beads and small bells that hung from it.  A cobalt blue translucent bead, the size of a handball, decorated the top.  It was held in place by a single brass screw.  Metal pins denoting military service covered the face of his pack, and a sterling silver Christian cross was attached to the pack's main zippered pouch.  He was clean shaved and dressed in well-worn hiking boots, clean blue jeans, and a denim work shirt.  Atop his head was an olive-colored felt, Australian-style fedora with a few colorful feathers decorating the side of the hatband.

One of the students yelled to him, "Hey!"

The old man stopped and turned toward the group, smiling. "Hey, yourself."

The teenager asked, "Where ya headed?"

The man tilted his head in the direction he was going and said, "That way."

The teen glanced at his friends who were giggling at the knowledge that not much was down that road except a trailhead leading into the wilderness.  He looked back at the man, looking for more information. "What's... that way?"

The inflection in his voice elicited more giggling from his friends.

The old man continued smiling and raised an eyebrow as he answered, "Where I'm headed."

The other students chuckled as their "spokesman" nibbled his lower lip.  He was getting nowhere in the discussion. "No, I mean...well, don't you have a goal...a final destination?"

"Of course,"  the old man began, "We should all have a goal. When you kids find your goals, never lose sight of them.  Losing sight of them makes it harder to arrive."

The teen was getting a little frustrated at not getting a straight answer.  He let out a sigh and asked his last question in an exasperated tone, "What is your goal?"

At this point, the old man laughed and a twinkle flashed in his eyes as he turned to continue his journey.  He yelled back to them as he walked, "To arrive, young friends.  My goal is the same as yours - to arrive.  Enjoy your journeys!"

Seconds later he went around a bend in the road and was lost from sight behind a tree.  The students waited for him to appear out from the other side of the narrow tree as he continued down the road, but, he never did.  Just like that, he was gone.  It was as if he had walked through an unseen door.

The students got up off the bench and followed their "spokesman", slowly making their way to the tree to see where the old fellow might have disappeared to.  All they found was his walking stick.  It was leaning against the tree, bells, and beads hanging from leather laces, with the cobalt blue "bead" on top.

The "spokesman" picked up the walking stick and rolled it in his hands.  Like the bells and beads, the cross from the zippered pouch was now attached to another leather lace.  The teen placed the cross between his thumb and forefinger.  He arched an eyebrow, smiled, and looked toward the narrow dirt path where the road ended.  He whispered to himself, "Enjoy your journey, old man."

************************************

Where are you headed?  Do you really care, or is it all about the journey?

I decided to stop caring as soon as I understood several truths: Happiness is the only true success in life, time is a human construct, and our souls move from this life to the next great adventure, and beyond.

When the train pulls to the final destination, I will stay in my seat and wait for it to leave.  If all I've heard about "heaven" is true, I'm certain to be bored to tears.  My goal?  My goal is to live life.  I'll take the failures, mistakes, loves, and heartbreaks.  I will be truly happy always and in all things, regardless.  Life is what it is until it isn't, and then it is what it is... again.

The "final destination" is just the notification that you've made it.  But, what about everybody else?  If we made it, aren't we supposed to mentor them or something?  I'm staying on the train so I can enjoy another journey.  How about you?

Questioning Weakness, Contracts, Leaders, and AOC

"If Leftists like AOC actually thought mandates and masking worked, they wouldn’t be frolicking in free FL."
-- Steve Cortes

Do you consider AOC to be a person of high integrity and credibility?

No. I don't even consider her attractive. Decorum prevents me from saying more.
Should I proceed with my decision if my assessment shows the weak points outweighs the strong points?
If it isn’t an important decision, failure is the best way we learn. If it deals with love, go for it, but remember there are two answers and you may not hear what you want. Before you proceed, you really need to understand the importance of the decision to move forward and if a failure will crush the life out of you. Choose to be happy, regardless of the outcome.
What characteristics establish a delightful soul?
True happiness always and in all things, regardless of your circumstances.
Why do we wait for opportunities to come to us? Why don't we create legitimate opportunities?
Why don’t you? Those who strive for excellence do not sit on their laurels. They go out and work for what they want. Relegating one’s self to a life of social welfare has never been an attractive alternative to reaching for the stars. It garners no self-respect.

How has living to your expectations been with you?

As I approach 70 years of age, I have no more expectations than to continue to strive for happiness always and in all things. This, and waking up each morning to give thanks for the gift of another day in paradise and another chance to excel, make living worth the effort. It has become easier since I have no desire to excel at anything more than happiness. Any day on this side of the dirt is a day to celebrate.
“Blessed is he who expects nothing, for he shall never be disappointed.”
-- Alexander Pope
Ellen DeGeneres said: “Sometimes you can’t see yourself clearly until you see yourself through the eyes of others”. How do you interpret it?
We define ourselves a certain way, but it isn’t necessarily the way others define us. Sometimes we think we’re “all that” and we so aren’t. Sometimes we see ourselves as so much less when we have so much more. Sometimes we berate ourselves for failure when all life did was present us with an opportunity to learn. Seeing “clearly” all depends on who is looking.
Can a leader be both transactional and transformational?
A good leader can be whatever is required of them. If they can’t, they’re not much of a leader.
In English, people use "till the cows come home" to mean till hell freezes over. How abusive was this home that the cows have vowed never to return to?
The cows come home in the morning to be fed. So, basically, you’re giving something a 24-hour time period, or until the cows wander in. You’ll work your ass off on it till the cow’s come home. Since hell will probably never “freeze over,” whatever decision you have to make will never be the one they want to hear. Hell will freeze over before you give them what they want.
What do you call those people who do a lot for their loved ones but do not expect anything in return?
Selfless.
Whenever I think about a business, I think I would let my friends be part of it. If I don't do this, they'll be disheartened. Is it okay to think this way?
No. Business and friends make strange bedfellows. If you’re going to loan money to a friend, make them sign a contract to pay you back. Family, friends, and business are a hard mix, and contracts should always be part of the equation so everyone knows just where they stand and what their responsibilities are.
"Business, you know, may bring you money, but friendship hardly ever does."
-- Jane Austen
Why is it important to have a kind heart, fierce mind, and brave spirit?
No, these three are only important if this is who you wish to be. If not, you can be any combination or none of them at all. No one can say what is important for another. Some are leaders and others are followers. Some are dominant and others are submissive. And, lest we forget, all those who exist in between, and are truly happy in their lot. Why and what you are is of less importance than being truly happy always and in all things.
What is something Americans do that bothers you?
Vote poorly.

Honestly, are you really struggling in this economy?

No, but that doesn’t mean the Biden and Putin both don’t need to go. The mentally infirm and the mentally insane should never have their fingers on the button to nuclear armageddon.
What is the meaning of Christine Joy?
Who is Christine Joy?
What are the telltale signs of bad leadership?
Bad inspection results. An overflowing suggestion box. A failing business. A “revolving door” of dissatisfied employees. A robust business in the HR department. The owner is working harder than the employees.
"Nothing will kill a great employee faster than watching you tolerate a bad one."
-- Unknown
How true is it that if one has superior talent, training, or experience, one may accumulate riches in large amounts?

Not very. What if your superior talent is washing windows or digging ditches? You have mega training and experience doing it. Will you accumulate riches? Only if you also have the business knowledge to turn what you do into a business that lots of people need so you can incorporate and hire hundreds of workers.

Can planning too much be a negative thing?

You can always over plan. Sooner or later you have to start fishing or you’ll be forever cutting bait.
My ex-partner left me and our son. Now he is saying he doesn't want to be in our old home to see our son, why?

He isn’t much of a father? So many names are on the tip of my tongue, being a man who wanted to be but was denied the right to be, a full-time father, myself. I am hesitant to judge before hearing the reason from his own mouth. Might I recommend you ask him what his reason is?

Do Americans feel hated around the world?

Only if they practice hatred. Let us hope they swim in the deeper end of the gene pool.
Do you have a weapon that isn't lethal but protects you when needed?
Psychology. It isn’t 100%, but if the attacker is a fool you stand a pretty good chance of survival. If not, a solid kick to the nads will drive him to his knees, choking on his own bile, trying not to throw up. Now you have the choice to continue kicking the crap out of him, snapping his neck, or running. Personally, if I’m not a resident of a democratic state, like New York, I’d kick the shit out of him and call a cop. What do you do when your body is a weapon? Show some restraint and try to follow the rule of law. Yeah, let’s go with that.
"...the image of police officers beating Rodney King with billy clubs as opposed to police officers continually shocking a person with a taser. Both are severe forms of abuse. However, because the act of pushing a button is far less dramatic and visually arresting than swinging a billy club, it can come across as much more humane to the general public. This, of course, draws much less media coverage and, thus, less bad public relations for the police.”
-- John W. Whitehead
How well do you think you understand yourself and your family?
Approaching 70? Very well.

How successful do you think you’ve been so far?

I’ve been very happy in both of my careers. The only thing I never found happiness in was my marriage, but that was insignificant in the greater scheme, considering it was my mistake to marry the wrong person. She did give me two great kids, though, so, all in all, I have had a pretty successful life, barring that one fricking 25-year mistake.
How would I find a list of tasks for my sub?
They are your submissive, Mistress. What are your desires? You certainly are not admitting you’re not up to the position of dom, are you? I think not.
How many chances do you give a person before you write them off?
Two. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. There will be no third time.
Why do I always try to "game the system" or cheat? I find myself constantly looking for ways to cut corners even when I shouldn't.
You fear failure, even though you fail each time you cheat. Failure is life presenting a lesson for us to learn, which you choose not to. Critique why you failed, try again, and again, until you attain the goal, then move forward. This is life and, at times, it isn’t all that. Accept that you will fail. It is how we all learn.
“Cheating is a choice. Period.”
