More Questions Concerning Ethics

Why are we here in this world? I've grown up seeing people and of a sudden they're dead. I've watched people rise so high and then fall. What's life really about?
Learning. Did they get back up again? Did they learn the lesson they were given, or didn’t they recognize it as a lesson? Life is all about choices and decisions, and these are all about learning. What we learn helps us along our path from this life into the next. Failure just happens to be one of the best ways we learn. Recognize the lesson for what it is. Don’t get pissed off or discouraged, or you miss the point.

My Reply: One must have faith; a belief in afterlives for which there is little or no proof. A majority in this reality have such beliefs. I’d like to think that where there is smoke, there is fire.
What would you do if you knew someone was going to hold a very large party with a live band during a pandemic?
Plan to watch a movie at home. People have proved themselves to be morons. Many will ignore the mask mandates, and many will crowd on top of each other. I’m not sure what the science will say about it, and with me not being sure, why would I take the chance where death is concerned, for myself and those I love?
What is the greatest illusion about time?
That it actually exists.

That would be predicated on nothing changing in the world around me. Everything changes, however, so I might not get what I always got if I continue to do what I always did. I might, then, be changing as well.
Why do so many people seek to change their careers in the new year?
If not now, when? The New Year represents a new beginning in many respects.
Is it always permissible to change your mind or only if your most important personal values ​​remain the same? What do you think about it?
It is always permissible to change your mind, but “permissible” does not require you to do so, it simply means you can. But, a quote comes to mind: “Just because you can do a thing does not mean you must do that thing.” This especially holds true if it conflicts with your personal moral values.

Do you plan to spend New Year’s 2021 at home?
At 67, I find it hard to stay awake. Yes, home sounds like a plan. 
What is your interpretation of the following quote, "Through the reflection of the past we can see our future." If we choose to acknowledge the past, learn from it, and then apply what we learned"?
If you don’t learn from the past you are doomed to repeat it. If we acknowledge the truth of the past, not what we are taught by those with an agenda, we can see where the past is most likely taking us. If we learn from our past and apply what we learn in the present, in the now, we can have an effect on what might be.
What is the one thing you would do if you could not fail?
Explore the universe, and search for God. 
Are some people more important than others?
Their knowledge is more important, and from that knowledge, they gain a modicum of status and respect. It doesn’t make them better, just more important. I don’t consider myself very important in what I know, as everyone should know it, but I do consider a bowel movement an important part of my day. It isn’t better, just more important.

Do you have a “no-no” list?
Having served in military intelligence for more than 22 years, this usually falls in the “what is legal” category, otherwise, anything is game. “Anything” encompasses much and "much" can be quite fun.
Do you sense that something big is about to take place worldwide?
The truth will come out, globally, about aliens and unidentified flying objects. 
What are four things that a person could do now that would positively change their life?
Develop a personal, morally ethical code. Embrace yourself as that good person you really are. Be selfless when it comes to others. Strive to be happy always.

What is the connection between self-knowledge and freedom?
To know yourself is to be truly free. You understand and embrace that life is all about the choices and decisions you make. What happens to you, good or bad, is based on what you choose. A bad job was your choice to take. A bad boss came along with that bad job, that was your choice. A bad marriage was your choice to marry the wrong person. Losing money was based on a bad decision you made. And, happiness is a conscious choice you must make, to be happy always.

By knowing yourself you are better prepared for what might come. In this way, you can free yourself from doubt and any emotion but that of being happy at all times. Mistakes and failures are not things to be looked down upon as long as we accept them as the life lessons they are, learn from them, and not make the same mistakes again. Freedom of choice is something no one can take from you. You always have the choice to give in, or fight, that choice is yours, and provides a true feeling of freedom.
How much did luck play a part in you being happy?
None. Being happy was a conscious choice I made to strive to be always. A choice, a decision, is not luck. The consequences of that choice or decision might have a basis in it, however.

What are the most valuable facts we should know in life?
Nothing is serious unless it involves death, continued life, or health. Smiling will get you farther than frowning. Honey will draw more flies than vinegar. True friends are hard to come by, so cherish them. Socialism really doesn’t ever work. Money cannot buy true happiness. Always stand as a patriot with a morally ethical code. And, be a beacon of light for others to emulate as you continuously strive to be happy always.

Questioning Success... Again

 

Great people didn't take care of their "social circle", so, is social interaction really important? To what extent?
If they didn’t take care of “their social circle” we must ascertain if they are truly happy with the consequences of their life. Many times, our social circle is comprised of those who help us move forward. They are owed, at least, a modicum of gratitude for their support. If the "great" show no gratitude, what does that say of greatness? The fact this question makes it sound as if their “social circle” is a thing of their past, would not be surprising.

Social interaction is important. Networking is important. Recognizing those who help us move forward, and thanking them for their effort, is also very important. In this way, the “great people” now become the mentoring force in their universe.
Why is 'knowing things' not always 'doing things'?
Insider information on a stock could make you millions of dollars, but the jail time when you’re convicted of “insider trading” prevents you from doing it.
Why does the past eat at us so much?
Our inability to let it go and move on. We dwell on our mistakes, even though we can do nothing but mitigate the results in the present and learn from what happened so we don’t make the same mistakes again. We kick ourselves for failures, not realizing that failure is one of the best ways we learn lessons, as long as we critique what we did wrong. We need to learn to let go of the past and pay more attention to the present. The choices and decisions we make now will have a great effect on what happens in the next moment. Learn to make good ones.

What is a list of things on which you count your success and prosperity?
Great jobs, economy, attitude, job, support, and a lack of significant debt. 
What affected your vibe today?
Having to remove the green bell peppers from my prime beef marinara sauce. I can use the peppers for flavoring but the cooked peppers make my girlfriend urpy. I quickly recovered, though, by layering them in a shallow casserole dish with two kinds of cheese. Baked at 350, it will make great pepper sandwiches.
What are the products/items that cannot be advertised?
The selling of sexual favors. It is illegal in most states. 
When did you discover your aim?
When I joined the military. My aim was to stay in for 20 years, get out and do 20 years with another company, and then retire, for the second time, at 60. It worked out as planned, though I would have continued working if my father didn’t have a stroke.

Are we great?
I don’t know if we’re great, but I am absolutely great! But, then, I am a legend in my own mind.
Would you rather live in a huge home and be house poor or live in a modest home and have a lot of expendable money?
One has little to do with the other for me. I hate large houses as they take too much work to keep up. Being a humble man with few wants, the simple home is fine for me, regardless of how much I make. “Expendable” money simply goes into the bank in case of emergencies. For instance, I keep $5000 off to the side just to cover my end of catastrophic medical, and then insurance covers the rest.
What are the greatest benefits or advantages that the wealthy have, besides money?
If they’ve planned right, they don’t have to worry about anything except being really happy, which money can’t buy them.

What can you say to counter "money does not buy happiness"?
You can say much, but it will be empty. Money does buy “happiness,” but it doesn’t buy real happiness. Real happiness exists even in the absence of anything else.
Is there a place and a time you would love to have lived in the past, and why?
Knowing what I know now, nope. The past had poor personal hygiene, bad sewers (if any), no toilet paper, food quality was questionable, yadda, yadda, yadda. Ever been around someone who constantly smelled like ass or armpit? Ever had the desire to live on jerky, hardtack, and water that might give you dysentery? You had an opportunity to die at any moment for any number of sad reasons besides accidents. Is it any wonder the life span was so short for the majority? Nope. I’m fine right here.
If one seeks and does not find, what went wrong?
They were looking in the wrong place.

How do you feel about the fact that you are not in control of your destiny and that your fate is not in your hands?
I am so in control of my desired destiny, but my fate, the reality of it, is in the hands of God. My desired destiny is to die a happy old man, but how old I become is in the hands of the Creator.
How much do you think luck played a part in your success?
About 30%. I’ve always been one to take chances, but not so much with my success. Having said this, when you’re up against others is testing for a position, variables do come into play. Awards and decorations, time in service, performance reports, visibility, all have a bearing and all depend on who is still in the business, the awards they may have gotten, how good they were at their job, etc.
What does it mean to be haunted by your mistakes?
You’re still dwelling on them; you just can’t let go. What has happened is in the past. There is little to nothing you can do about it. Remember it, but don’t dwell on it. Learn from your mistakes, so you don’t repeat them, and move forward. How much attention you pay to your choices and decisions in the present moment has more bearing on what may happen in the next than dwelling in the past.

There’s no better way to release the past than to refuse to dwell on it. And the best way to refrain from dwelling on the past is to keep your attention firmly focused on the present. When you find yourself thinking about the past, ask yourself the following question: “Where am I right now?” This will bring your attention back to the present moment.

Questions Starting Off 2021

What are your New Year’s resolutions for 2021?
I resolve to continue to be happy always! Why? The alternative simply sucks.
Is something crazy going to happen in 2021?
Crazier than the Chinese government trying to kill the world? Maybe Iran starting a war they cannot win against an administration that would let them.
What can I do to celebrate the New Year 2021?
Give selflessly to a charity of your choice, whether a monthly contribution or an annual endowment. Once a year I make a contribution to a children’s hospital, and several times a year I purchase food for the local soup kitchen at the Baptist church, especially for Thanksgiving and Christmas. It has become my way to let go of the past year and ring in the new year.

Do you care what happens to Trump after January 20th?
Do I care what happens to Biden if he continues back-peddling on his promises to half of the American people while confirming the opinions of the other half? It is politics. No matter what happens, the American people will get screwed, some worse than others. Be careful what you wish for.
Comment:  You answered the wrong question. This shows Trumper’s are now hiding their lack of enthusiasm for Trump and moving on to Biden.

My Reply:  Oh, I answered the question, there was simply a lack of understanding.   

And, thus started this session's mindless drivel from the League of the Perpetually Offended.  They came out of the woodwork with strange, non-constructive comments, veiled threats, "attempted" character assassination, yadda, yadda, yadda; everything I have come to expect from the LPO - nothing substantive
Occasionally an intelligent mind will insinuate itself into the mêlée, but they are few and far between. I said "intelligent" which has little to do with being smart enough to shy away from this kind of crap. Better to let the LPO feed on themselves, and let others read their disappointing comments, than to try having intelligent disagreement with them.

My dad was my biggest bully in life and a severe abuser. I cut off contact and then went back, only to hear him complain about me and emotionally abuse me. How can I make sure I cut him out for good?
Stop going back. You started fine by cutting off contact, then you must have had to prove to yourself it was the right thing to do. Convinced?
Why is it, that when you make a mistake in life, many people jump in to attack?
Fearful cannibals. Groups of us attack our own weak and devour them. Now, consider they usually do this as a group. Why? The members of these groups are also very weak, and usually weaker than those they attack. Like most senseless bullies, they have fear. If you stand up to them they’ll back off like the true cowards they are, not that I’m judging, but I used to be a victim when I was young, then I stood up for myself.

What would you think of a guy with no friends and not even trying to have any?
I would consider him a loner. It wouldn’t stop me from being cordial to him, however. One needs not to assume. 
Why is any situation I am passing through in life nobody's business and must I figure out how to scale through myself?
It’s only “nobody’s business” if you want it that way. It is your choice to “scale through it” yourself or to ask for assistance or mentoring. Some people, having gone through the same stuff, might be good advisors. You can’t walk their path, nor can they tell you how to walk yours, but knowledge is a terrible thing to waste, especially because of pride.
How can you make it?
Determination. You must make the conscious choice to make it. If you have the right determination there is no room for failure. Put your eyes on your goal and never waver from it. If you fall down, get back up. If they knock you down, get back up. Never take “no” for an answer, and “can’t” is no longer in your vocabulary. If they ask for a volunteer, do it. If people call you a “brown noser” tell them to lead, follow, or get out of your way. When they take a step back, just smile.

Everyone says, "It isn’t about the destination, it’s about the journey." Personally, if the destination is heaven, I’ll get off the train and ask when the next train is due. By this time, I would have earned being in heaven, but one has to think you’ve also earned the right to keep moving along by this point. Heaven is supposed to be the perfect place. I just can’t imagine how boring "perfect" will become after a couple of millennia.
The destination we seek is a place and it's also a new way of seeing things. How we see things changes as we journey onward through our many lives. I think heaven might just be the final test for those who make it.  The final exam:  Will you stay, or would you rather continue on?

If you buy off on "The Rapture," I think this is a test as well.  All those souls being left behind and all the righteous getting in line for "salvation" makes me wonder why all the "righteous" are in line?  Who will step out and ask the Lord, "What of these?"  Everyone is in line because they've been told they'll be saved, when what the Lord might really be after are the few who will make the selfless decision to stay and continue counseling the wicked.  How righteous would that be?

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of what was popular when you were growing up, going from childhood to pre-teen to teenager, and what was one thing you just couldn’t wait to do, like at age 16, for instance?
Pixy Stix, and kiss Susan, the freckle-faced redhead I’d been infatuated with since 4th grade.  Loved Pixy Stix, never did get the opportunity to kiss Susan.  Too busy!
Why are so many people attracted to the collective beehive mindset?
Independent thinking is not required. Welcome to "The Borg Collective."

What life situations are not worthwhile to make compromises for?
Anything that compromises one’s personal code of moral ethics. What we stand for is who we are. Once you compromise your code of ethics, how can anybody truly know you? Better to be a constantly shining light than a faulty circuit that leaves you wondering when you’ll be left in the dark.
What are the most indecent moments you have ever experienced in front of a doctor?
She was an attractive blonde captain in the Air Force giving me my periodic physical. She had a firm handhold on my package when she told me to turn my head and cough. I was counting backward from 100, trying not to be aroused. What came out was a weak excuse for a cough. She asked me what the problem was, and I looked at her, smiled weakly, and said, “Really?” She smiled and told me to get dressed.
How do you surrender to a life that refuses to please you?
You don’t. If you do, it is a choice you make to do so. Strive to be happy always. Sometimes this means giving up a goal or changing how you go about reaching it. Never give up, but never surrender either.

What does everyone deserve?

Everyone has freedom, especially the freedom of choice to work hard, enjoy the life they work hard for, and to be happy in their life always.

 When were you caught in a compromising situation?

When her husband came home, halfway through his shift. She took him into the kitchen so I could sneak out the front door. Married women? Not so much.
What would you do if someone wronged you?
It would depend on the “wrong” done to me. If it was against me, I’d confront them, and then probably forgive them. My tolerance is great, but if it was against my family and loved ones, the hurt might be, for them, unimaginable. 
Have you ever realized that you weren’t going to be that “next” big deal, that you weren’t going to be the best, that you couldn’t even aspire to that? How can I be happy by just “being the best I can”, when it’s not enough to be the best out there?
Oh, I think you realize that early on in life. If you’re truly realistic, you also learn that being happy always is so much more important than being that “next” big deal. To be happy just being the best you can is, for many, enough. If you have given life your all, and have held nothing back of yourself and your desire in your quest for whatever it is you seek, then you have nothing to regret. I always tout the old adage, “Those that can... do. Those that can’t, teach.” Being happy is a choice each of us must make for ourselves. Is the idea of “following your dreams” romanticized?

Well, yeah. There is nothing wrong with the saying, but people put more into it. “Follow your dreams!” Follow them. You might never catch up to them, but there is certainly nothing wrong with that. Nor is there anything wrong with romanticizing the idea. But, simply following, for many, gives life purpose. We learn along the way, when we follow and, sometimes, our dreams change into more realistic goals. What we learn by “following” might morph into leadership in ways we never imagined.
How are things in your world?
To answer the original question, before it was changed by the powers that be, “Is everything OK in the world?” my answer would be, “Oh, hell no! Is this another trick question?”

What is one reason why human beings sometimes make irrational investment decisions?

They know little about what it is they’re investing in. They don’t do their “due diligence”: “The reasonable steps taken by a person in order to satisfy a legal requirement, especially in buying or selling something. A comprehensive appraisal of a business undertaken by a prospective buyer, especially to establish its assets and liabilities and evaluate its commercial potential.”

Will people still say “bless you” in 100 years?
Unless those “godless” socialists and/or the League of the Perpetually Offended have their way, yes, we will. And even if godless factions do take control of our lives, faith is all about belief in something for which there is little or no proof. Faith is something no one may take from you. It is freedom of choice that all of us enjoy. We will continue to “bless” each other with our faith in something greater than ourselves, and nothing can change that. More importantly, why would you want to?
How do you feel about people who do the opposite of bettering humanity?
I have no use for them. These would be people who are offended by everyone else including themselves. I strive to be happy always.  My life here is precious and I choose not to waste any of it on them, unless they threaten the peace and happiness around me. They use up precious oxygen put to better use by those trying to do good in the world. They have, already, begun to reap their reward, the balance of which will be delivered upon their passing. 
Why does something that is clearly stated, easily get turned around and interpreted differently?
First of all, as evidenced on [this site], what one thinks they are “clearly” stating, really isn’t. That being said, even if it is clear, the League of the Perpetually Offended have no other choice but to read into it what they will. It is, after all, what they do. The best we can hope for is to clearly state what we want to get across and hope it doesn’t get turned around or interpreted differently. But, what if it does?

There are times when people bait you with foggy questions, to see if you take the bait.  I've had this happen on more than one occasion.  You answer the best you can.  What I found they don't expect is you to come back at them with stating thier questions more clearly.  They hate being called down for their supposed shortcomings.  Sometimes you just have to understand human nature and go with the flow. I used to let the League get under my skin, but to what end. Nothing will change what they are, so why worry over those things for which we have little or no control?

If you need to clarify what you say, apologize and do so. If they balk at your courtesy and still don’t wish to understand, move on. Ignorance is, oftentimes, a game others play to elicit an emotion they choose, more than a reasonable response. Better to strive to be happy always than to play the game.

What is one cause for which you would gladly give everything you own?
Pay the ransom on my grandchild. Gladly I would pay. And then the hunt begins. God help them when I catch up. God is the only one who can.
Does every thought really have an "opposite" thought? Is it the reason for human conflicts?
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. A thought is simply an action, so it stands to reason this would hold true. And, yes, the inability of humans to be tolerant of contrary thought is a reason for conflict.
What is the concept/idea that you recently learned?
It isn’t that I recently learned it, but that I’ve recently come to appreciate it:

Responding to Questions

Responding to questions on [this site] helped me to rationalize and cope with my own issues, how has it helped you?

I am happy always… or strive to be, at any rate. I try my darndest not to have issues I can’t facedown in short order. What it does do, however, is keep my mind open and active. It makes me think of answers to questions I know will be put to me sooner or later. I am so glad it is helping you on your journey.
What things are romanticized but shouldn't be?
DGW (Dropdead Gorgeous Women). We’re finally getting over this bit of societal bullshit. I’ve been with a couple of them. No. Hell no. They aren’t all that. I’ve had more fun with the girl next door, women with a full-figure, tomboys, glasses and freckles, you get the idea. I’m sure there are some nice DGW out there. I have never met one, yet. I stopped looking, though, in favor of personality, in the deeper and more varied end of the gene pool, hanging onto the ladder, smiling. These women were more impressed that I actually had a car, than what kind of car it was, and they could work on the engine, which I found useful. A burger on the beach was fine; lobster not so much. They’d start the fire. These women would go skinnydippin’, whereas a DGW would lock lasers and reply, “You want me to do what?” Yeah, as if they didn’t hear.  Like they'd never taken their clothes off in front of strangers before, although, the temperature did drop significantly when the lasers came out, at least for me.
If there was a true balance between "good" and "evil" or Yin and Yang does that mean they would "cancel" each other out like negative 1 plus a positive 1 meaning there really is no such thing as good and evil if there was a true balance between the two?
Do light and dark “cancel each other out” or do they strike a balance we can live with? In order to have balance, both must exist. We would not know one without the other.

In your opinion, is the phrase "money doesn't buy happiness" always true?
If you require money in order to purchase your happiness, what does this say about your mindset? Basically, you admit you cannot be happy without material goods. Yet, happiness is not tangible, it is a state of mind. You must make the conscious choice to be happy. If you fail to be happy without money, how will you ever find true happiness by spending it?

Is “money doesn’t buy happiness” always true? Perhaps not, but it certainly won’t buy true happiness. 
What makes a good decision maker?
A good decision-maker would be those who think all aspects of the issue through before making a decision, as opposed to a decision-maker who proves to be good by the high percentage of correct decisions they make, over those who think things through but still get it wrong.
Can a vision board really affect your future?
Only if they bring their vision to fruition. Politically, it might destroy a nation. Financially, it might destroy a nation. Racially, well, you get the drift. There will always be the League of the Perpetually Offended who feel they deserve more than everyone else. Anti-fascists who are fascists, anti-racists who are racists, anti-firearm advocates who arm themselves with fully automatic weapons, and defund the police advocates who just want to burn down the cities with no repercussions. Unless a vision is based on love for all, I’m not sure I part of it.

Why does it seem life likes to ruin everyone’s life?
We make bad choices and decisions, one of which is allowing others to make those for us. For the most part, life sucks because we allow it to. The League of the Perpetually Offended won’t like this answer, but, then, life sucks. 
What is something you have been looking forward to?
At 67?  Viagra Ultra.
Should we celebrate self-interest as a guiding moral principle?
If your self-interest is ensuring you adhere to a selfless, morally ethical, code, I don’t see why you shouldn’t. In doing so, also ensure you strive to be happy always. One actually goes hand-in-hand with the other.

Is 100 percent positive thinking not always a good thing, all the time?
It is absolutely the necessary thing, all the time! Constant happiness and positive thinking make our world bearable. Can you imagine a world without it? This is not to say you shouldn't be sad at the death of a loved one, but wallowing in the sadness is not productive.  Many people wallow in that world, not realizing that happiness and positive thinking are conscious choices they must make for themselves. Misery seems to be their daily grind. 
Loss of a job and financial issues are examples of concocting sadness over poor choices we make.  These are our choices, and sometimes we make bad ones.  So, you made a mistake.  You can keep kicking yourself over it or smile at the lesson you've been given and learn to move on with new knowledge.  
The League of the Perpetually Offended will find a reason to be offended at my comments.  It is expected.  They must have something to hold them back from happiness.  But, one must rise above the bullshit and move forward smiling, and smiling if for no other reason than we continue to live!  Striving for constant sadness and negative thinking is not as productive as striving for constant happiness and positive thinking.  I mean, well, just think about it.
What is the difference between a doer and a trier?
Master Yoda: “Do… or do not. There is no try.” A doer gets the job done while others continue to try, and to no avail. Either do it or don’t, there is no trying. Yet, this philosophy negates the reality of a “learning curve” most of us need to make "getting the job done" actually happen. I think the deeper meaning here is to not stop trying until you succeed. If you succeed, you haven't tried at all, you’ve done. It’s when you don’t keep trying that you have tried and failed.
What shape does life take on?
The “shape” of life is infinitely varied. Some are not even sure planets aren’t life unto themselves. Consider the phrase “dead planet” and why. No volcanic action to renew the “skin” of the world. No circulatory system of the life-giving water. No respiratory system of trees and oxygen. Does a world actually live? In a way, we are simply another organism this world abides at its own peril.

What are you holding onto that's holding you back?
The same thing I’ve always held onto that has cost me an annual award in the military for 10 years of my career - my personal ethics. I absolutely will not violate my ethics in order to get ahead. I will not kiss ass or trade favors. I was always the runner-up for the award and finally found out from a friend assigned to headquarters that the reason I never won was that I didn’t kiss enough ass. I wasn’t “political” enough. Well, no surprise to me since I never puckered up to anyone’s butt cheek, nor was I ever accused of being “political.”

These ethics were why I was hired in the civilian sector. My next boss, for 19 years, wanted someone who wouldn’t tell him everything was good when it wasn’t, and he hated people who kissed his ass. Never, ever, sacrifice your ethics in order to get ahead in life. You might as well sell your soul.
Do we need references for everything we say?
Are you honest enough to say that you’re not certain, or it’s just your opinion when you say something? I really hope so, because I sure as hell don't have the time to fact check all the bullshiters I hang with.

A Question of Tolerance

Do you live a life that facilitates doing the things you like to do most, or do you live a life that interferes with doing the things that you like doing the most?

Life is about choices and decisions. We choose our responsibilities and, with our choice, we accept any “interference” that is caused. This is “expected” interference and, therefore, shouldn't really have an effect on life. I have chosen to be here for my mother. I have put things on hold in order to accommodate this. She put so much on hold for the first 18 years of my life, so the least I can do is pay her back. Striving to be happy always is accepting responsibility as a positive choice you make to do something necessary. If you feel it interferes with life, well, get over it and stay happy always.
How does it feel to reach that point in life where you do everything with the highest amount of energy?

Fulfilling! And then… retirement. Not so much. 

What does “I fear being tolerated” mean? Is being tolerated something bad?

That all depends on who is tolerating you. I’m tolerated by many of my friends who probably require much more tolerating than I do. It does, after all, take one to know one. I require tolerating because I am upfront with people. I tend to not hold back, which is a fault I don’t work on much.

Being “tolerated” isn’t as bad as it is informative. It tells you much about the people around you who probably require some serious introspection. One can try not to judge, but it is trying.

The League of the Perpetually Offended has little use for me, therefore, their toleration is non-existent. Where the league is concerned, I really could give a fig. If they aren’t offended by me they’d be offended by someone else. My toleration for them doesn’t really come into play since I really don’t care about them any more than they care if someone tolerates them. 
So, again, it depends.  Better to not concern yourself with the opinions of others and to simply strive to be happy, always, despite them.

What should I do for a balanced and successful life?
First, and foremost, learn to be happy always! If you can’t constantly find a reason for happiness, in the good times and the bad, how can you possibly call life balanced and successful? Happiness, at all times in life, is essential.
Who is a very unpleasant billionaire?
George Soros.  He uses and manipulates, people, companies, governments, and has no qualms about admitting how much fun it is.  He is an unpleasant ass who wastes the air good, decent, and morally ethical people breathe... not that I'm judging.
Is finding the right question just as important as finding the right answer?
Finding the right question is not as important as phrasing the question properly so people understand it. One can read poorly phrased questions quite often, on this site, that make you scratch your head. I actually had another reader comment to me, “I think what they meant to ask was…” and this was my whole point.  This reader also “thinks” what was meant. It wasn’t clear to either of us. Finding the right question is important, but knowing how to phrase the question will get you a much better, and clearer, answer.

In a word, what stands between you and your biggest goal?
Retirement.
How do you make life choices? Do you make them clear and consciously, or do other people influence you?
Do you let someone else invest your hard-earned money? I can squander my own money in the stock market, I don’t need help doing it. So it is with life choices. It is your life, and if you let people influence you, you might as well give them your money as well. Embrace this one fact, if you let them influence your choices, they are still your choices. You can’t blame others for what you let them con you into doing. You are responsible for your own life, and if you aren’t you’ve most likely put your life in the hands of poor custodians.
What is a good real-life example of 'careful what you wish for'?
The latest election in the United States.
Why don’t things always need to make sense? How do you deal with not knowing?
How do we truly learn if we don’t struggle for the answers? I deal with not knowing by finding out. You can’t go through life with your finger up your nose, you have to go out there and learn what needs to be learned. This is why we’re here. This is how we will, eventually, move forward in our next life and the other lives that follow.

How do you politely tell people not to dump their negative energy on to me?
But, you’re their friend. You’re there so they can dump on you, right? There is no polite way to tell them because they really don’t want to hear it. This is why they have “negative” energy. If they ask for help, this is another matter, providing they use the help given and don’t keep coming back for another dump session. Usually, though, they’ve become accustomed, comfortable, to wallowing in their pit of self-pity. Don’t let them drag you into it with them. I find it much better to find people with positive energy to hang with. People who strive to be happy always.
Why won't anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? People only tell me good things.
My last boss had this issue. Everyone told him only what they thought he wanted to hear. He was the Vice-President of a multi-million dollar corporation and really needed to know what has going on around him and when he would screw up. He hired me because he was looking for someone who wouldn’t “blow smoke up his ass.” After almost 23 years in the military where not being upfront could cost lives, this was not going to be a problem for me, and I told him as much. I worked with him for the next 19 years.

You need to let people know they are doing you no favor by always telling you good things. You need to hear honest critiques about what you’re doing and how you might be able to do better.
How can a person stop being a “dog with a bone”, and let go of what is bothering them?
Even a dog gets tired of knawing on the same old bone. There comes a time when you just have to bury it and hope you don’t remember where. If what’s bothering them is current, maybe it's time to confront it. If it’s something in the past, well, it’s in the past. Maybe try moving on to something they actually have some control over, like the present. Make good choices and decisions in the present and they will probably have a better outcome for their future. Funny how that works. If what’s bothering them is in the future, it hasn’t happened yet. This means they have some control over the outcome if they try to mitigate the issues driving it. The point is, put the bone to rest and get on with life. Strive to be happy always.

Are there any examples of one having to be/do evil at any point in their life?
Evil is a choice, like everything else in life. You never have to be evil, you choose to be. Evil can only enter your life if you invite it in, so don’t. Strive to be happy always. If something is driving you toward making a bad decision or choice, steer away from it. What you do defines who you are. Always be so much better than the evil that comes knocking.
What is good, and how do I do it?
Good is everything that isn’t bad. Good is right and bad is wrong. How do you do it? Don’t do anything you even think is bad or wrong. Be selfless in your actions and develop a moral code of ethics you can abide by always. Never waver from this code, as it will redefine who and why you are. It will help you mentor and be the light for others to seek out. Strive to be happy always!
Do you think you are one in a million or hundreds or way more unique? If so, what makes you like that?
We are all unique. Any “sameness” is by our own choice. Even a clone would be unique by what it experiences and how it reacts. But, at the end of the day, we are all that we choose to be, and that choice, and the freedom we exercise to make it, makes us all unique.
