Sunday Thought for August 4, 2013: Just Another Boat

What sets us apart from every other boat in the marina?  Are we the largest, or maybe the prettiest?  Do we deck ourselves out with lots of bling?  Are we the fastest or the most steadfast?  I would venture that these make up what we are, not necessarily who we are.

I got up early and dressed for my morning jog.  Even at 6:30 it was already quite warm and humid on the gulf coast of Mississippi where I'm visiting.  People were already up watering their yards and fetching the morning paper from driveways.  Southern charm was already awake and in full swing, however.  Everyone I passed offered up a greeting and a smile, even the drivers of vehicles gave a little wave of "good morning!"

If we do nothing else on this Sunday of rest, I think it would be nice to offer each of our neighbors our smile, a kind verbal greeting, or even a small wave.  I say a t-shirt yesterday, and I thought what was written on it was apropos for this morning.

"If you don't have a smile of your own, you can borrow mine!"
